SAFEE Sali had every right to savour his return to international football when his goals fired Malaysia to victory in the AFF Suzuki Cup on Wednesday.

The Selangor striker saved his best for the latter stage of the tournament with three goals against Indonesia over the two legs of the final.

Safee, 26, underlined his value to the national team and his growing potential with a calm and collected finish in Jakarta which virtually sealed the championship for Malaysia.

"I could not have done it without the contribution of my teammates," said Safee, whose strike was aided by an equally impressive defence-splitting pass from Ashaari Samsuddin.

"When this tournament started, it was never my intention to finish as the top scorer. We also never expected to win this cup but through hardwork and determination, we have succeeded."

Safee now turns his attention to helping Selangor retain the Super League title but he did not rule out a move abroad in the future.

"That might be possible. It is something for me to consider if the right offer comes along," added Safee, whose previous teams were Kuala Lumpur and Sarawak.
