2011 Malaysian Income Tax: IRB offices to remain open till 8pm today

KUALA LUMPUR: All Inland Revenue Board (IRB) offices around the country will keep their service counters open from 8am to 8pm today, the last day to submit the 2010 income tax returns.

A total of more that 1.5 million returns have been received by IRB so far including more than 108,000 filed via e-Filing yesterday alone.

IRB public relations officer Masrun Maslim said in view of the good response for the online transaction, IRB had decided to open additional e-Filing counters at its offices.

Yesterday, Masrun said in ensuring that the e-Filing system was continually functional, IRB had upgraded the e-Filing line from 169 Megabyte per second to 300Mbps.

"There is a 23.5 per cent increase in the total number of tax returns received so far this year compared with last year."

Masrun urged taxpayers making the last minute rush today to submit their returns via the e-Filing system as it was much simpler and faster.

He said taxpayers should try to make their submissions by today to avoid facing late payment fines.
