GE13: Mukhriz sworn in as 10th MB of Kedah

ALOR SETAR: Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir has been sworn in as the 10th Mentri Besar of Kedah at Istana Anak Bukit.

Mukhriz, 49, took his oath of office in front of the Kedah Council of Regency chairman Tan Sri Tunku Annuar Sultan Badlishah at about 4pm, on Monday.

Also witnessing were members of council Tan Sri Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah and Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz Sultan Abdul Halim.

Presents were Mukhriz's parents Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, and his wife Datin Norzieta Zakaria.

Also attending were the newly-elected state representatives from both Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat.

The new Mentri Besar later said he will need until May 15 to decide on the state executive council line-up, Bernama reported.

He said he needed a little bit of time before he could propose the names and get the consent of the Sultan of Kedah.

"I will have to first evaluate the performance and experience of each of the assemblymen who will later be appointed state excos," Mukhriz told reporters.

He added that the number of excos would remain at 10, the same as previously.

Mukhriz was picked to be the new MB of Kedah after the Barisan recaptured the state from Pakatan Rakyat with a simple majority in Sunday's 13th general election, winning 21 seats out of the 36 seats at stake.
