GE13: Zambry to be sworn in as Perak MB on Tuesday

IPOH: Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir will be sworn in as Perak Mentri Besar for a second term on Tuesday.

The swearing in will take place before Sultan Azlan Shah at Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar.

Dr Zambry retained the state seat of Pangkor with a convincing majority of 5,124, beating Mohd Saifullah Mohd Zulkifli of PKR who garnered 7,167 votes and an independent Bernard Parenpa Johon who only managed to secure 51 votes.

The people of Perak gave the mandate to Barisan Nasional to rule the state after it won 31 of the 59 state seats in the polls on Sunday.

This will be Dr Zambry's second term as mentri besar.

He was first appointed to head the state in 2009 after the Pakatan Rakyat state government which had secured 31 seats in the 2008 general election, fell with the defection of its three assemblymen who became Barisan friendly independent.

Immediately after the official result was announced early Monday, Dr Zambry said he was humbled by the people's choice.

”While we celebrate this victory, we are aware of the new responsibilities that needed to be fulfilled, especially the pledges that we have made to the people,” he said.

He said Barisan would keep to its philosophy of Janji Tepati' (promises must be fulfilled).

Dr Zambry said Barisan accepted the people's decision which saw Barisan scraping through with a very slim majority of three seats.

He said the state Pakatan would also carry out a post-mortem to analyse the Chinese votes swing towards the Opposition.
