Kuching Golden Bridge: Kuching to have new RM35m bridge

KUCHING: The city will get another iconic landmark in the next two years with the building of an "S" shaped bridge across Sungai Sarawak.

The RM35 million bridge, which will be 400m in length and 3.25m wide, will serve as a link between the northern and southern parts of the city, which are separated by the river.

Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said the bridge was part of the state's initiative to integrate both sides of the city.

"This bridge is a symbol of harmony between the two parts of the city.

"Although we have always lived in harmony, this bridge is a symbol that we are closing the gap between the city centre and the Malay villages on the other side," said Taib after launching the bridge project at the State Legislative Assembly building yesterday.

The "S" shaped bridge will connect the state assembly building to the iconic Kuching Waterfront, and will be named the Golden Bridge, following Sarawak's 50th Golden Jubilee this year.
