Tan Sri Azizan Abdul Razak: Former Kedah MB passed away

ALOR STAR: Former Kedah Menteri Besar Tan Sri Azizan Abdul Razak passed away at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital here about 11.15am today, after suffering from cardiac arrest yesterday.

Menteri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir announced the news just now.

The 69-year-old Sungai Limau assemblyman had been depending on life-support machine for about 10 days before he suffered the cardiac arrest twice yesterday.

On May 9, Azizan underwent a surgery to amputate both his legs below the knee to prevent life-threatening risks stemming from the infection at the Penang Hospital.

He had been transferred to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital on August 14 after spending more than two months at the Penang Hospital.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak who is in New York tweeted - @NajibRazak Al-Fatihah. Takziah kepada keluarga Tan Sri Azizan Abdul Razak atas pemergian arwah, semoga roh beliau dicucuri rahmat.
Mukhriz also extended his condolence to the family of late Tan Sri Azizan.

Mukhriz who arrived at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital at 11.50am to pay last respect to his predecessor, described the Azizan's passing as a big loss to the country.

"Even though we are from different political affiliation but Tan Sri Azizan had made huge contribution to the people in Kedah," he said.

Meanwhile, the hospital deputy director Dr Noor Zaini Morad said Azizan was pronounced dead at 11.05am here today.

"He had suffered from sepsis with multi organ failure," she told Pressmen.

Those who wish to pay their last respect may do so at Pokok Sena Pas headquarters in Jalan Langgar from 1pm till 4pm.

Meanwhile, Yang di-Pertuan Agung Tuanku Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah is expected to arrive about 2.50pm.

Azizan's body would be buried at the Musasah Darul Ulum in Pokok Sena about 5.30pm.
