2013 UPSR : All round improvement in results

PUTRAJAYA: A total of 42,646 pupils scored all As in this year's Ujian Pelajaran Sekolah Rendah examination, an increase of 9.15 per cent from 8.94 per cent last year.

Education director-general Tan Sri Abd Ghafar Mahmud said there were 466,167 pupils who sat for the examination this year.

The national grade point average, he said, had improved by 0. 04 points.

"However, there has been a decline in the number of pupils who did well by securing a minimum of grade C had declined from 56.94 per cent last year to 56.28 per cent this year," he said. The number did not include those who scored all As.

Abd Ghafar said there has been an improvement as there were less number of pupils scoring grades D and E this year.

"The percentage has shrunk  by 0.06 per cent from 3.42 per cent in 2012 to 3.36 per cent this year," he told reporters when announcing the 2013 UPSR results today.

Abd Ghafar said there were more top scorers in the urban areas with 25,685 pupils scoring all As and 16,960 pupils in the rural areas.

"However, the gap of excellent achievement between those in the urban and rural areas is getting narrower as both areas registered an improvement of 0.20 per cent for urban and 0.27 per cent for rural."
