Sarawak: Adenan Satem will be new CM, Taib submits resignation letter

KUCHING: Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud has submitted his resignation letter to the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng today.

The resignation takes effect February 28.

He announced Tan Sri Adenan Satem as his successor who will begin his stint as chief minister from March 1.

Taib will also step down as Balingian state assemblyman.

Earlier, Taib arrived at the Astana Negeri here at 2.50pm today to seek an audience with the Yang di-Pertua Negeri.

Taib entered the main audience room after having a 15-minute discussion with the State Secretary Tan Sri Morshidi Ghani earlier.

Also present at the Astana Negeri were Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang, Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh, Social Development Minister Tan Sri William Mawan and Land Development Minister Tan Sri James Masing.

On Monday, Taib told the reporters during a function that he would seek an audience with the head of state on his intention to resign as the chief minister on Saturday (Feb 15).

The audience is part of Taib's succession plan where he is also expected to submit his letter of resignation and disclose to the TYT the name of his successor.
