Sultan Nazrin Shah: enthroned as 35th Sultan of Perak

KUALA KANGSAR: Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah has been enthroned as the 35th Sultan of Perak in a ceremony steeped in rich royal Malay royal tradition held at Istana Iskandariah here today.

Sultan Nazrin was proclaimed the state ruler when Orang Kaya Bendahara Seri Maharaja, Gen (rtd) Tan Sri Mohd Zahidi Zainuddin pronounced Daulat Tuanku three times, repeated each time by all those present.

At the same time, the nobat (royal musical ensemble) was played simultaneously with the firing of 21-gun salute.

Sultan Nazrin Shah's consort Tuanku Zara Salim was later proclaimed as the Raja Permaisuri Perak.

Earlier, the ceremony started with the bringing in of a Quran which was presented to the Sultan.

The sultan kissed the Quran before placing it on a special table.
He later kissed the royal sword, Cura Si Manja Kini.
