Malaysian MRT Sungai Buloh- line 64% complete as at May 31

CONSTRUCTION of the MRT Sungai Buloh to Kajang Line is ahead of schedule and 64% complete as of May 31 this year.

The overall progress for underground works is around 80%, with elevated works 55% done and the 9 1/2m tunnelling works completed since April.

Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd strategic communications and public relations director Mahmood Abdul Razak gave the update at a buka puasa event on June 30 at Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral.

“Underground works are now focused on the construction of the seven underground stations, putting in track beds in all tunnels and constructing cross passages as well as the escape and ventilation shafts,” he said.

Additionally, works on the elevated portion has seen the completion of construction on three viaducts as well as most of the structural works.

“Similarly, the progress of the elevated stations are on track as you can see parts of both the northern and southern stations.

“The roof trusses are being fitted and the rooms within the stations are being fitted with equipment,” he said.

He added that two of the 50 multi-storey park and ride facilities in Sungai Buloh and Kajang are being used by KTM Komuter passengers.

“The facilities will be available to MRT passengers when the entire MRT Sungai Buloh to Kajang Line becomes operational by July 2017,” he said.

Seven completed train sets have been delivered to the depot in Sungai Buloh where they are undergoing dynamic testing, he added.

“These trains were assembled in the first train assembly plant in Rasa, Hulu Selangor with track-laying work being done along the completed sections of the MRT viaduct,” he said.

As work on the second MRT Line known as the SSP Line that links Sungai Buloh, Serdang and Putrajaya has begun, MRT Corp will be having a public inspection roadshow until 17 Aug.

There are booths at 24 locations with details of the line available for public viewing and feedback.

“So far, we have had more than 30,000 people visit our booths and over 5,600 people have given their feedback, with 91% showing their support of the SSP Line,” he said.
