Tunku Abdul Jalil: Johor prince passes away


KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak led Malaysian leaders online to offer condolences to the Johor royal family, following the passing of Tunku Laksamana Johor Tunku Abdul Jalil Sultan Ibrahim (pic).

Tunku Abdul Jalil, the fourth child of Johor’s Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, lost his battle with cancer at about 7.11pm yesterday, reports Bernama, quoting the Johor Royal Court Council. He was 25 years old.

Messages of condolences have begun pouring in, including a tweet from Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

“Condolences on the passing of Tunku Abdul Jalil. May his soul be blessed,” Najib said.

“Merafak sembah takziah atas kemangkatan Tunku Laksamana Johor, Y.A.M. Tunku Abd Jalil Sultan Ibrahim. Semoga rohnya dicucuri rahmat. Al-Fatihah,” the Prime Minister tweeted, shortly after news broke of the prince’s demise.

Condolences were also posted by the Johor Southern Tigers Facebook page, which is often used as the official mouthpiece of Johor crown prince Tunku Ismail.

“Our deepest condolences to the Royal Family of Johor on the passing of HH Tunku Jalil Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, Tunku Laksamana of Johor, who passed away on December 5th 2015. Sincere wishes from the Johor Darul Ta’zim team, the management and staff of the Johor Football Association, Southern Tigers Sdn Bhd, and supporters of the Southern Tigers. Al-Fatihah,” it read.

Tengku Puan Pahang Tunku Azizah Maimunah Iskandariah, who posted a picture of her family with the then ill prince on Instagram, also prayed for blessings for her nephew’s soul.

“Inna lillah wa inna ilaihi rojiun.....semoga Allah swt cucuri rahmat keatas roh anak saudara saya Jalil yg baru mangkat kembali ke Rahmatullah... Alfatihah,” she said.

MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai also offered his condolences, tweeting: “Salam takziah ke bawah DYMM Tuanku Sultan Johor & Kerabat DiRaja di atas kemangkatan Tunku Laksamana Johor, Tunku Jalil Ibni Sultan Ibrahim.”

Joining him was his deputy Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, who said “Sembah takziah ke bawah DYMM Tuanku Sultan Johor & Kerabat Diraja di atas kemangkatan Tunku Jalil Ibni Sultan Ibrahim” on his Twitter account.

Also among the Malaysian leaders were Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hussein who wrote: “Merafak sembah takziah atas kemangkatan YAM Almarhum Tunku Abdul Jalil Iskandar ibni Sultan Ibrahim. Smg dicucuri rahmat AllahSWT. AlFatihah” and Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin who tweeted: “Merafak Sembah Takziah kepada kerabat di Raja Johor atas kemangkatan Tunku Laksamana Johor, Almarhum YAM Tunku Abd Jalil. Al-Fatihah.”

Tunku Abdul Jalil, who was a police inspector, was diagnosed with cancer in December 2014. He established the Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation to help cancer patients who could not afford treatment.

His boss, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, said the young inspector was a good policeman.

“On behalf of all those in PDRM, I send my condolence to the family of Tunku Laksamana Johor. May his soul be with those that are righteous,” Khalid said in a text message.

The funeral will take place today after Zohor prayers and the body will be buried at the Mahmoodiah Royal Mausoleum.

The public can pay their last respects at Istana Besar here from 9am until 11am and VIPs from 11.30am until 12.30pm.
